In more than a decade of making decorative concrete we had never questioned whether we should use mould release agent in our moulds. Its a product that exists and like the Ronseal add, “it does what is says on the tin”. But really? Does it??
We’ve been blindly using it for so long it’s almost become a habit. It’s written into all our project protocols, it’s on our stock check list and is a MUST on our pre-project flight check.
So does it work? Well we decided that we should check. After all we sell it and advocate its use, including it in every bespoke shopping cart we build for our customers.
We built three identical moulds and greased those babies up ready to have concrete mix poured into them. We then left them a few days for the concrete to cure to see what would happen.
