What is microcement?

Microcement is a cement-based coating applied in thin layers (typically 1 mm thick) to create a seamless, durable surface with a modern, polished concrete look. It can be used on walls, floors, worktops, stairs, bathrooms, and even furniture, both indoors and outdoors. Concrete Lab Microcement is formulated for easy application, strong adhesion, and a stylish finish.

Can I apply Microcement over tiles, wood, or existing concrete?

Yes, Concrete Lab Microcement can be applied over a wide range of stable surfaces, including tiles, wood, moisture resistant MDF, plaster, and concrete. The key is proper surface preparation—removing dust and grease, and applying the primer to ensure good adhesion.

Is Microcement waterproof? Can it be used in bathrooms or showers?

Concrete Lab Microcement itself is water-proof, and when sealed with our recommended polyurethane topcoat, it becomes fully waterproof and stain resistant. This makes it ideal for bathrooms, wet rooms, and even inside showers. Correct application of primer, mesh, and sealers is essential for moisture resistance. Click HERE for our application guides.

How durable is Microcement? Will it crack or wear out?

When applied correctly, Microcement is highly durable and resistant to wear, scratches, and UV fading. Like any surface, it can be damaged by impact or movement in the substrate. Using reinforcing mesh and flexible primers helps minimise the risk of cracks, especially on floors or high-traffic areas.

Do I need professional experience to apply Concrete Lab Microcement?

While professional experience can be helpful, Concrete Lab Microcement is designed to be DIY-friendly. We have MANY first time custoemrs who have successfully applied our microcement. We provide detailed instructions and support. The key to a good finish is patience and careful layering. If you're new to it, we recommend watching our how-to videos first.
